Tambor del Cosmos, new music video from Campo, featuring Gustavo Santaolalla.
Campo is a collaborative project crafted by Uruguayan musician and producer Juan Campodónico (creator of Bajofondo, Peyote Asesino and producer of many influential musical projects).
Charly Gutiérrez, Boki González and Chelo de los Santos from Oriental Films directed the video from the song that opens and names the album, which features Gustavo Santaolalla as guest vocalist.
The visual shows two very different social and spiritual universes: On one side the almost shamanic figure of Gustavo Santaolalla, on the other side a gang of young people.
How come Santaolalla's spiritual search and the excesses of a youth gang are related?
The answer is in the song lyrics that meditate about how one is a part of everything and all things are interconnected.
Juan Campodónico devised that Gustavo Santaolalla's voice was ideal to communicate the essence of Tambor del Cosmos. The Argentinean musician, producer and two times Oscar winner, was not only Juan's mentor and musical partner since the times of Peyote Asesino. His work has always showed a strong spiritual side and was also a pioneer in the search of a Latin-American identity mixed with the new global sounds, since the times of his band Arco Iris en the 1970s. A search that is also present in Campo's music.
Santaolalla's participation also shows the collaborative nature of Campo. The project created by Juan Campodónico could be defined as a creative space joined by a permanent group of partners like Martin Rivero, Veronica Loza and Boni and different collaborators (e.g. Jorge Drexler and Ellen Akbro in the first album) contributing ideas to a mutant collective. It could be the dialogue between South American music and new global trends in their debut album (2011), the different visions of remix culture in Remixes y rarezas (2014), the original music for the ballet Nocturno (2015) directed by Julio Bocca or the meeting point between pop and poetry from Tambor del Cosmos.
The blend between global and South American music, the conceptual and collaborative side and the remix culture are also present in a new endeavor that carries these ideas to a new format.
Juan Campodónico Live Set is a project that blends original music composed and produced for his different music projects, like Bajofondo and Campo, remixed for a unique performance combining software, synthesizers, vocals and guitar.
Juan Campodónico Live Set has performed in Uruguay, Argentina and United States. It's a trip to the roots but also an exploration of new possibilities, projecting his work to the future.
